Organic Living: Making Organic Mainstream – Los Angeles Times

Christine Taylor: Natural beauty without breaking the bank

When actress Christine Taylor learned that many traditional personal care products, including toiletries and cosmetics, she and her family – husband Ben Stiller and two children – applied daily penetrated chemicals directly into their skin and pores, she started to study labels more closely.

“My family and I have been leaning toward a more organic lifestyle,” said Taylor, who recently starred in The First Time. “We started becoming more aware of what we were putting into our bodies,” added Taylor, now an advocate for going green and promoting the benefits of all-natural and organic choices.”

For me, organic living means living a cleaner, healthier life all around. It means eating organic food that is grown without pesticides and not genetically modified, cleaning my house with all-natural, non-toxic cleaners. And it means using USDA-certified organic personal care products that do not contain parabens, phthalates or other artificial ingredients that can be harmful.

Among her favorites include the new line, Nourish Organic Food for Health Skin (www.nourishusda.com), which is one of the first 100 percent USDA certified organic bath and body care lines under $10, and look and feel amazing. I use Mrs. Meyer’s Cleaning all-natural products for our home, and we like to stick to fresh, organic produce and snacks for food and groceries.

What’s important to note, stressed Taylor, is that natural does not need to cost more. “I don’t think  it’s necessary to spend loads of money in order to be healthy and environmentally conscious. A significant part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle is in the choices one makes, in cutting back on artificial ingredients – I think if you do that, you are already making a tremendous difference.”
